Mosquito Control

What you need to know about the Zika virus:

Mosquitoes are know vectors of diseases such as West Nile Virus, Malaria, dengue fever, and most recently, the Zika Virus.

It is believed that Zika has spread to countries such as the US through travel. People traveling to areas where Zika virus is found often acquire the virus themselves, and unknowingly bring it back to  their home country. The CDC have stated that so far there have been 107  travel-associated Zika virus disease cases reported in the United  States.

The World Health Organization declared the Zika Virus a global public health emergency, with substantial outbreaks in  USA, Africa, Asia and the Pacific.

Florida health officials confirm local Zika transmission  cases have been found, caused by local Mosquitoes in South Florida. These are the first known cases of the virus being transmitted by Mosquitoes in the US.

As of July 2016, there have been 386 cases of Zika in Florida,  including 55 pregnant women. The counties with the highest number of  cases are Dade with 99 and Broward with 55.

The Zika virus can result in potential neurological and autoimmune  complications. It is very dangerous to pregnant women and can result in  the babies being born with microcephaly. The most common symptoms,  however, are mild: rash, red eyes, muscle and joint pain, headaches, and  fever.

There is currently no vaccine or treatment.

This a serious South Florida problem.
